Are they leaving me here? This stranger is picking me up, arghhh I don't like it, now they are trying to bathe me. I don't like the bath, there's so much noise I want to go home.
This confusion can cause anxiety and trauma. - However, Fear-Free groomers like myself endeavour to take the pet out of petrified.

Using reward-based training and natural choice techniques to connect with your dog and gain trust. We don't ignore your pet's fear response in the name of getting the job done.
How is a fear-free dog grooming salon different?
We schedule appointments to fit the dog. For example, if you have a dog who is not social, we ensure that they are the only dog in the salon on arrival. We don't use cages; instead, we have a playpen so your dog can move and stretch their legs. Pheromone diffusers re-create a familiar and calming effect on the dog. Outside noises are eliminated, and dog-friendly music is played.
I have been told my dog has behaviour and anxiety problems. Will you still groom my dog?
Absolutely, we do offer a free meet and treat for all dogs. This is a brief one-on-one session where you bring your dog in for cuddles and treats. We let him explore the salon and take in the sights and smells while we discuss a tailored grooming plan. Your dog will associate me with the place to go and yummy treats.
What happens if my dog becomes aggressive during a groom?
Before your dog gets to that stage, I watch for little signals they give me, including licking their top lip, turning their head or shaking. I assess their comfort level throughout the grooming process.
There are two processes that some dogs don't like hair-drying, so sometimes they may go home a little damp and nail clipping, your dog may feel more comfortable in your arms, or distraction methods are used.
Is there anything I can do at home to set my dog up for a positive experience at the salon?
Get your dog used to grooming from a young age by visiting us and mimicking the grooming process at home. This includes bathing, brushing and playing with their feet.
Is Fear-free grooming suitable for older dogs?
Yes it is suitable for all dogs! I use a more holistic approach to grooming an older dog, as some may have mobility and health issues. I work around them; for example, some older dogs cant extend their back leg to tidy up the sanitary area, so I use an alternative position to tidy below.
